Slaughterday: Nightmare vortex
04/02/14 || gk
Slaughterday is a German death metal duo that worships at the altar of the old school. Nightmare vortex is the band’s debut full length and this is some solid death metal. The band wears its influences on its sleeve and their love for Autopsy should be obvious to most but Asphyx, Death and German thrash raise their heads every now and again.
Also, it’s the little guitar harmonies, the big fat grooves and a generally good sense of songwriting that lifts “Nightmare vortex” above many of its contemporaries. This is a band and album worth checking out for fans of death metal. Absolutely nothing new here but it’s a fun ride.
7/10: Derivative but fun old school death metal.
After going thru that crap, you most likely wanna read something way more interesting. You do, admit it.
